Compact Breadboard-Interfacing Power Supply
Power supply designed for providing power to prototyping applications
As a project for ES91r: Frustration of Electronics, three classmates and I designed, built, and tested a compact breadboard-interfacing power supply designed for providing power to prototyping applications, we called the "BITE® ASOF-15." The ASOF is designed to take input from a typical DC wall source and transform it into 2 sets of adjustable split supply voltage with high current capability. The ASOF works on a boost-buck topology, where we first boost the input voltage up to 40v, and then buck it down to our desired value with adjustable feedback resistors. We then produce a mirrored negative voltage with coupled inductors, to provide symmetric rails for projects requiring both positive and negative voltages. Output voltages are adjusted with two potentiometers, and are displayed on two digital voltage meters.
Input:
- 12v, 5A DC wall wart, or bench top power supply for higher power applications
Output:
- 2x Adjustable positive and negative supplies
- Voltage range: -15 to +22V
- Current range: 5A at +/- 5V, 1A at +22/-15V
User Interface:
- 2x voltage adjustment dials
- 2x digital voltage displays
- Header pins for flexible output
- Breadboard pins plug directly into the board for stable connection
